The name Eden is derived from the Bible.

According to the book of Genesis chapters 2 and 3, God planted a garden in Eden and therein placed man to till and keep it; God caused trees to grow in the garden. The Edenic paradise was mainly arboreal, thereby providing food for man. The original human diet seems to have been vegetarian.
